“I’m lucky enough to love what I do for a living, I have a real passion for the art of capturing light and manipulating it to tell a story”

Personal Profile

Family-1-2

I live in Lichfield, in the very heart of England, with my lovely wife (Jo), 2 beautiful children (Tilly and Alfie), and 2 cats (Bert and Bella).

With a background in drama and performance, I have always enjoyed storytelling through the combined use of visuals and sound. Digital filmmaking, therefore, came easily, as it allows me to unite my creativity with a natural flair for all things technology.

With strong project management and organisation skills, I excel in taking a project from concept through to completion, on time, on budget. Working in the filmmaking-industry since 2008, either as an employee or freelancer, my job roles have included:

  • Producer
  • Director
  • Project manager
  • Cinematographer
  • Camera operator
  • Sound recorder
  • Editor
  • Animator
  • Still photography, promotional design, web content, are further aspects of my work

Professional Career

As a student, I set up and managed Lichfield’s first ever, and now annual, Film Festival, produced a feature-length film and even won an award for my film “Blue Smoke” for ‘best music video’.

Both during, and after completing, my studies I spent a few years honing my craft at media production company ‘Armoris Media’, firstly as a technician and later as the project manager. As well as producing videos for corporate clients Armoris also worked with the Higher Education media students of South Staffordshire College, offering corporate work placements

For 3 happy years I was the Producer / Director of Slinky productions, a Birmingham based video production company. My day to day role included managing a fantastic team of Assistant Directors, Production Coordinators, Camera Operators, Editors, Animators, and additional freelancers (when required) to produce a wide variety of video / animated content for corporate clients.

After my time with Slinky, I moved back into education, as Senior Digital Media Producer (SDMP) for Coventry University Online (CUOL), managing the 26 members of the Digital Media Team (DMT), made up of a varied mix of highly skilled video producers, animators, editors and other filmmaking professionals. A subsidiary of the Coventry University Group, CUOL is of significant strategic importance, having a great deal of visibility within the University and wider Higher Education sector, and is dedicated to designing and developing cutting-edge online degree courses.

A large part of the SDMP role is to guide the DMT with the development of innovative, inspiring and enjoyable online content for planned online degrees on a major e-learning platform, and also for the business’ exciting and diversifying portfolio. A relatively young company when I first joined, a considerable amount of my early time with the company was spent developing ways of working, best practices, processes and tools to improve the quality and efficiency of how media was produced, collaborating with the other Studio and company seniors to ensure they met the needs of the wider business and fit into the overall workflows.
